The Work of Psychotherapy
My work in psychotherapy is client centered and I believe the client is the expert. During the development of the therapeutic relationship, my work is to guide the client through the process of healing. I believe that people not only want but actually need someone to listen – my goal is to fulfill those needs. Although I employ several different therapeutic models, my primary model is Narrative Therapy, an approach that supports the client’s strength to discover the submerged knowledge that allows the client to re-write their life narrative.
“If we know that the past also lies in the present, we understand that we are able to change the past by transforming the present”
(Thich Nhat Hanh, Our Appointment with Life).
My Work
Although I have an extensive background working with those who struggle with disordered eating and other addictive disorders, I also offer psychotherapy services in the areas of mood disorders, anxiety disorders, attachment disorders and professional/work related challenges.
I firmly believe that spirituality/religion plays as significant a role in our lives as the biological, psychological and social aspects of our lives. Research supports the positive role of spirituality/religion, and I am very interested in helping my clients be aware of and utilize their spiritual resources.
Also, having over 30 years of experience in the business world, specifically in marketing, I believe I have a unique perspective in helping those in challenging careers, stressful work environments or those who are questioning the work they are doing.
