Hello and Welcome,
I believe therapy/counseling is a collaborative process which involves your active participation. Throughout the therapy/counseling process, I use active communication and empathic listening to get to know, understand, and hear your unique voice. I will acknowledge your individuality and be aware of the lens through which you see life. You need to know that I will value your strengths and diversity while recognizing the many challenges you may face when confronted with the need for change in your life. My approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help you resolve current problems and long-standing patterns with sensitivity and compassion.
In recognizing the uniqueness of the individual and the power of relationships to heal, I use an integrative approach that considers both the needs and strengths of the client with whom I am working. My approach includes seeing you as a whole person with the hope of gaining an understanding of how you see your life. My goal is to create a framework for the structure of therapy/counseling that is both useful in the process of change and flexible enough for you to feel comfortable and empowered. I will work with you to build on your strengths, to identify and achieve changes important to you.
I believe that we are all capable of change -- whether that means changing our attitudes, behaviors, thoughts, feelings or accepting and finding value in how you see yourself. As we work together, I look forward to exploring and encouraging you to share your attitudes, thoughts, beliefs, feelings/emotions, hopes, and challenges. While I understand this sharing may be difficult, I look forward to creating a safe space in which you are willing and/or able to do this exploration together.
In my current private practice, I work with adolescents, adults, and couples on a wide range of concerns including loss & grief, Gay & Lesbian issues, depression, anxiety, abuse, trauma, life transitions, career/EAP. I also enjoy working with students who may be struggling to cope with academics, goal-setting, friends, major/career choices, college decisions and life transitions.
