Kathleen Hickey - Psy.D. kathleenhickey@TherapiesEast.com 414-278-7980 ext. 111
Dr. Hickey believes that it is through relationships that a sense of our true selves evolves. She views the counseling relationship as an opportunity for individuals to gain confidence and competence by learning new and more effective ways of relating to others. She employs a combination of Jungian-Archetypal, Family-Systems, and Cognitive-Behavioral perspectives in her work. Length of treatment can vary from short-term crisis intervention to longer-term insight-oriented psychotherapy.
As a Clinical Psychologist, Kathleen has treated anxiety, depression, and other mood disorders. Her professional interests further encompass a wide range of topics. These include: developmental transitions throughout the lifespan; relationship skill building; couple enrichment; creativity and personal expression (music, art, poetry, journaling); and gender-related issues.
Kathleen’s work with couples includes a program called Prepare/Enrich, based on the work of David H. Olson, Ph.D. Through this program, the couple completes a personal inventory and receives feedback that assists them to prepare for commitment or to enrich their committed relationship. Having this resource available allows her to work more effectively with couples who are preparing to marry or who are planning a commitment ceremony. It can also be used with committed couples who are negotiating two careers, thinking of starting a family, seeking better ways to keep love alive, or wanting to balance home, work, and relationship more effectively.
